Yu Guang Tan, MD, MBBS, MRCS, DWD

Research interests: uro-oncology, in particular the management of localised prostate and bladder cancer.

Yu Guang graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2014, having achieved distinctions in both the surgery and medicine tracks. He was awarded a Harvard Medical School-NUS scholarship to undergo an urology subinternship at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he excelled and received a commendation letter. He completed his Urology residency at the Singapore General Hospital in 2023 and passed the Exit Examination the same year as the Gold medallist, awarded to the best performing candidate.

Apart from his clinical pursuits, Yu Guang has a keen interest in academic medicine. Throughout his residency years, he had published over 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts, many of which were first authored. He had presented his research in over 15 regional and international conferences, and had received top prizes in posters, oral and video presentations. He is currently an invited reviewer and associate editor for various urology journals. He is the principal investigator for three research studies amounting to $100k and a co-investigator for several other studies. During his residency, he pursued a Masters of Clinical Investigation and is now running a clinical trial on using MRI-US software fusion robotic guidance to deliver focal therapy for localized prostate cancer.

Dr. Tan’s interest lies in uro-oncology, and in particular the management of localised prostate and bladder cancer. He has been part of the prostate focal cryotherapy clinical trial team in Singapore General Hospital, and currently holds a grant to develop the next generation of focal therapy using MRI-US fusion robotic guidance. He is currently leading the high risk bladder cancer clinic service which aims to provide a comprehensive clinical care and academic research for these patients.
