PL 09. Complications of penile implant surgery
The satisfaction of penile implant surgery is high. Dissatisfied patients have usually had a complication that may have required a revision.
Complications are best avoided and simple tips described in this talk may aid this- having all of the devices available with the appropriate instruments, taking care about device contamination and attention to detail about post operative care will reduce pitfalls.
Intraoperative complications may happen in the best of hands but the key is to recognize and correct at the time. This is true for all types of crossover, tunical perforations and sizing. Urethral complications may occur and this will be discussed.
Post operatively the dreaded complication is infection which will involve explantation and usually a salvage rescue can be performed. Erosion, crossover, SST deformity will also be discussed.
