AB021. The clinical efficacy of low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave for Peyronie’s disease

Background: To investigate the clinical efficacy of low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave (LEST) for Peyronie’s disease (PD).

Methods: From Jun 2015 to Jun 2018, 31 patients with PD in our center were treated by low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave (LESW). Each patient was administrated with a shockwave output of 3,000 times, from the distal end to the proximal end of the plaque. Each patient received 8 courses of treatment, and three times a week. Then we observed pain intensity (using Visual Analogue Scale), the size of plague, penile curvature of the patients and International Index of Erectile Function 5 (IIEF-5).

Results: The most striking findings were as follow: the erectile pain of 17 patients were obviously alleviated; the plagues gradually become soft or diminished in different degrees in 10 of the 31 cases; The IIEF-5 scores were increased in 16 of the patients complicated with varied degrees of erectile dysfunction after LESW. However, penile curvature during erection showed no significant improvement. No obvious complications were observed.

Conclusions: LESW therapy has a certain effect on PD by relieving plague-induced pain and improving the patient’s penile erection and quality of life.
