MR 23. Relationship between seminal fructose and seminal parameters in infertile men
Objective: To investigate the role of seminal fructose in the development, diagnosis and treatment of infertility through studying the relationship between seminal fructose and seminal parameters.
Methods: Semen samples were harvested from 616 infertile men who were treated in our center from January 2009 to March 2011. Seminal plasma fructose's normal level was set between 0.87-3.95 mg/mL, lower than this level was considered as abnormal. Seminal parameters and biochemistry were compared between people with normal fructose levels or not.
Results: Seminal fructose showed no significant relationship with the seminal parameters, seminal biochemistry, and seminal elastase (all P>0.05). When the seminal fructose decreased, the seminal volume, sperm concentration, and pH value significantly decreased. Patients with abnormal seminal fructose had significantly older age (P<0.05). The percentage of rapid progressive motility sperm, sperm viability, curvilinear velocity, straight line velocity, and lower seminal leucocyte and immortile sperm showed no significant differences (all P>0.05). However, Seminal leucocytes, sperm viability, percentage immotile sperm or normal sperm, seminal elastase, zinc, alpha-glycosidase also showed no relationship with seminal fructose (all P>0.05).
Conclusions: Seminal fructose has no remarked impact on sperm viability. The secretary capacity of seminal vesicle decreases with aging. Semen volume, pH value and sperm concentration decrease in infertile men, and therefore may be used as an indicator of ejaculatory duct urethroscope.
