Objective: To observe effectiveness of interleukin-2 and famciclovir in preventing the relapse of gential herps (GH).
Methods: Interleukin-2, with a dose of 400,000 U, added in 2% lidocaine, was injected to block the eight acupuncture points of the bone crevices including the upper crevice, middle crevice, secondary crevice, and lower crevice, alternately. Meanwhile, famciclovir, 0.25 g, was orally administered three times daily for six days. The therapy was repeated every four weeks for one year.
Results: Totally 200 patients were followed up. Twenty-six patients were free from the GH within one year, while 102 patients experienced relapse for more than 2 times within one year. However, and the overall efficiency was satisfactory.
Conclusions: Interleukin-2, by blocking the eight acupuncture points of the bone crevices, together with oral famciclovir, can effectively prevent the relapse of GH.
