TAU is endorsed by the Genitourinary Medical Association of China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care (GUA-CPAM): new door open for academic collaboration
From December 2014, Translational Andrology and Urology (TAU) is officially endorsed by the Genitourinary Medical Association of China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care (GUA-CPAM) and will be the official publication for GUA-CPAM. This is a meaningful milestone for TAU as an acknowledgement for its influence in the field of genitourinary research, especially in andrology and urology. The cooperation will tremendously advance TAU’s continued exploration in the field and enhance the academic significance of GUA-CPAM. The endorsement was officially announced at the president meeting of GUA-CPAM in Shenzhen, China on December 6, 2014 (Figures 1,2).
Since its launch in March 2012, TAU has been publishing articles in the fields of andrology and urology, with a focus on authoritative expert opinions on medical management, safe and highly effective surgical procedures, cutting-edge basic research, and the most relevant data from outcomes research that are welcomed by busy clinicians and researchers, as well as the general public. On February 12th, 2014, when the journal was to embrace its third year, the editorial office received an official letter from Scopus Tittle Evaluation Team as a formal notice that TAU was accepted for inclusion in Scopus. Regarded as a relatively new but very professional journal, TAU has been publishing special issues. Each special issue includes comprehensive reviews on a certain topic, which are important focuses in the field of male genitourinary research.
On March 2013, the special issue on “Men’s health” edited by Dr. Run Wang was launched in TAU. As Dr. Wang stated, andrology and urology are very closely related specialties, which both deal with, but are not limited to the male genitourinary system. Men’s health is the center of urological andrology with a great deal of exciting progress in recent years (1). This special issue presents superb articles contributed by many internationally renowned authorities.
On September 2013, the special issue on “Prostate cancer” edited by Drs. Jer-Tsong Hsieh and Ganesh Raj from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, outlines the current challenges of prostate cancer treatment and discuss every aspect of hormonal metabolism, receptor alteration and mechanism in prostate cancer to pave a way for developing better therapeutic strategy and prognostic tools (2).
On March 2014, the special issue edited by Drs. Philip S. Li and Marc Goldstein further expands Dr. Run Wang’s edition with a focus on “Male infertility, microsurgery and men’s health”. Distinguished authors on the frontlines of clinical and academic male reproductive medicine who have presented cutting edge basic research, microsurgical training and research, robotic techniques, the genetics of male infertility, fertility preservation in male cancer patients, and new animal models for studying the pathophysiology and microsurgical management of varicoceles were invited to make contributions (3).
On June 2014, a special edition on “Male genitourinary reconstruction and trauma” was launched by Drs. Benjamin N. Breyer and Jack W. McAninch (4). On September 2014, Drs. Thomas Chi and Marshall L. Stoller worked together to launch an issue on “Kidney stone disease” (5). And there will be more in the coming issues.
All the articles are also available online and we sincerely hope the readers will enjoy reading the comprehensive materials and benefit from what TAU has been publishing.
The Genitourinary Medical Association of China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care (GUA-CPAM) was founded in August 2nd, 2014 in Beijing, China. It includes three study groups focusing on different specialties: the urology, the reproductive and the basic research. GUA-CPAM offers a platform for health care providers in the field of genitourinary studies and practices for academic exchange, education and training, international cooperation and consultant etc. Drs. Zhongcheng Xin, Zhiming Cai, Liqun Zhou, Nianzeng Xing, Yuanjie Niu, Ping Wang, Chuanliang Xu, Jihong Liu, Shaopeng Qiu and Zhiming Bai are all on the board of GUA-CPAM.
The valuable endorsement, as stated by Professor Yinglu Guo, the honorary President of GUA-CPAM as well as the Editor-In-Chief of TAU, is a landmark policy decision aiming to promoting the collaboration of both parties and the development of urologists’ clinical practice and scientific research. In the meeting, the detailed information of the upcoming 15th Asian-pacific Society for Sexual Medicine (APSSM2015) and The 8th Asian-Pacific Society of Men’s Health and Anti-aging (APSSMHA2016) were also discussed and decided. TAU will be honored to serve as the one of proponents for the two meetings (Figure 3).
We believe this collaboration with GUA-CPAM is going to be win-win for both parties. On the road to better service for physicians and patients, we expect to collaborate ever more closely with the international authorities in the field, like the GUA-CPAM, to provide the most up-to-date knowledge and advances to our readers.
